LOSTOCK 1ST XV 12 ORMSKIRK 4TH XV 12
Ormskirk 4ths travelled to Lostock for this league match and were unlucky to come away without the win. Ormskirk started the stronger of the two teams - from the kick off ‘kirk’s pack put pressure on the Lostock defence. Within minutes kirk had Wallwork charging over the line only to see the referee rule out his try after claims that the ball was held up. So with 5 five metre scrum awarded kirk got the bit between their teeth and drove Lostock over the line for number 8 Paul Fletcher to score on his return to playing.
Kirk’s dominance started to create problems for the Lostock defence as their pack attacked the line with gusto. Kirk secured another scrum some 15 metres out and having won the ball walked the Lostock pack all the way over the line for Nick Jacobs to score from scrum half. Fogarty adding the extras.
However ‘kirk’s lead was to be short-lived. Lostock took advantage of some sloppy handling from kirk to score. Half time score 7-12.
The second half was a non eventful half with both teams negating each other’s attacking efforts. Neither side could find the breakthrough until an intercepted pass allowed Lostock’ scrum half to cross the whitewash.
With failing light kirk were awarded a penalty within kicking distance. So Carl Day took the pressure kick. The kick looked good. With ‘kirk set to celebrate, the ball - which was hanging in the air for what seemed an eternity - dropped inches short of the bar. All was not lost though as kirk were awarded another penalty, this time on the other side of the pitch. Fogarty, who having kicked one conversion stepped up to take the kick, only to see it swerve away from the posts. Kirk were first to react and set the ruck up inches from Lostocks line. But with the ball not coming out the ref blew up for the end of the match. Full time 12-12
