Chorley 2nd XV 21 Ormskirk 4th XV 17

Ormskirk 4ths made the short trip to Local rivals Chorley at the weekend, and saw their hopes of continuing their winning streak shattered in somewhat of a controversial match. Playing the game in driving rain and on a surface that looked more suitable to growing potatoes than playing rugby, ‘kirk faced a well organised Chorley side. And it was Chorley who scored first whilst ‘kirk struggled to get out of first gear until the mid way point of the first half.

When Chorley scored their very dubious second try after a blatant forward pass, it was plain to see that the man with the whistle had already decided that ‘kirk were not going to win the match. Kirk did eventually get their game together and after a superb effort from the forwards driving the ball on in a well organised attacking maul Nick Jacobs appeared with the ball to give ‘kirk some hope in the game. This hope was short lived when Chorley were awarded an odd penalty decision, this gave them territorial advantage and they chalked up another try. Half time 21-5 to the home side.

The second half was a different display by ‘kirk, they had grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and employed the tactic tight forward play to wear down their opponents. As the game progressed ‘kirk’s persistence paid off as Adam Lee crashed over the line twice for kirk to climb back into the game. But just when it seemed that kirk would sneak a last minute winner the full time whistle blew with 4 mins still on the clock. Full time 21-17

Chorley’s captain speaking after the game, praised kirk for their efforts in the second half admitting his players were worn out and was thank full that the whistle blew when it did because he believed that kirk would have won the game if their was more time left to play.
