First XV Match Report – 2nd February 2008
Crewe & Nantwich 0 Ormskirk 0
Rugby really is a funny old game. Few have played in a 0-0 draw, but history was made on Saturday on a pitch that can best be described as a farmer’s slurry pitl! This game was cancelled two weeks ago due to a waterlogged pitch, but Crewe are keen to prevent a fixture back log and so after two pitch inspections in the lead up to the game, Ormskirk (ably assisted by Ashy the bus driver) made the long trip down the M6.
The game was very scrappy, a try was disallowed for both sides in the first 20 minutes, wading through the Glastonbury style mud made it very hard going for both teams, and Ormskirk’s pack played as well as they could in the conditions. The ball did get put out the backs on quite a few occasions but mistakes were made and poor decisions were the order of the day.
On the positive side, Ormskirk’s defence was fantastic. They defended their line manfully. They kept on knocking back Crewe with some mighty hits. Crewe has always been a very tough fixture, it’s a long time since we have won down there and to take a point from this disappointing game helps keep Ormskirk in joint 4th spot.
A scenic afternoon awaits Kirk in the Beautiful hamlet of Wallasey this Saturday.
