Ormskirk Ladies          0
Darlington                 21
Ormskirk Ladies are quite glad that match reporter Sam Botfield was not present to witness the game after the night before, because he would have written something nasty - I’ll try to be nice………
The girls were unsurprisingly a little worse for wear early Sunday afternoon, after a few small alcoholic drinks the evening before at the presentation dinner … but they turned up … some had even removed their make up. The Darlington team had traveled a long way - would this hinder them? Apparently not. Their very well drilled pack retained the ball and kept Ormskirk in their own half for a large percentage of the game.
The first try came after a long period of possession by Darlington, who’s full back then broke through the line and easily broke a poor flailing attempt at a tackle by full back O’Malley to dot down under the posts. Ormskirk continued to lose possession both in the forwards and the backs and continued to tackle like maniacs. The second try came after half time after sustained pressure on the Ormskirk line and was duly converted.
Ormskirk battled and battled, and bravely tried to play out of their own 22.
The final try came with the final play of the ball, when a member of the Darlington back row came through a gap in the Ormskirk defence at a ruck and with no full back at home ran in a try from 15 metres. The bonus point now gone, the referee’s final whistle blew after the conversion.
The Ladies weren’t at their best, but the effort was unquestionable.Â
Thanks to the supporters who ventured out … please come again when we’re not hung over!! Next game at home Sunday 4th November v Fleetwood.
