On the 27th August, 25 players from our Under 17 team will be travelling to Brive in France to compete in the Euro Rugby Cup 2008.
The opposing teams are of a very high standard, and it will be a testing time for our young lads.
There will be 8 other teams in the competition, and the list makes for impressive reading………….The National U17 teams of Belgium, Poland, Spain and Portugal. Also Castres,CA Brive and AS Montferrand representing France, and Calvisano (Italy)
The three French teams are from Clubs in the Top 14 (equivalent to our Premiership) … Brive (11), Clermont (1) and Castres (6).
This will be real test for these young men, as they start their foray into adult Rugby.
Donny Sutherland and his coaching team (Steve Markham, Dave Kidd, Graham Rawlinson and John Evans) will be guiding the team to , hopefully, a successful conclusion. Tour Leader Dudley Valentine and Team Manager Phil Reston finally make up the 32 man tour party.
They will be leaving the Club at 17.00hrs on Wednesday 27th August to make the 20 hour journey by coach to Brive, and will be returning at 8.00am on Monday 1st September.
I’m sure the club would wish these young men all the best for their journey remembering that they will not only be ambassadors for their club abroad, but also for their country.
