The 1st XV will kick off the new season with a home game against Oldham based side Littleborough this Sunday ( 31st August) at 3pm. This Lancashire plate first round match will give the fans their first chance to see the new look 1st xv. Johnny Armstrong has retuned home to Green Lane as the new 1st team player coach and has already made a big difference in pre-season training. Gareth Little returns from university to push for a place at scrum-half and young Luke Parker has injected some serious pace on the wing. Along with Johnny, coaches Phil Harland and Norman Hall have prepared the lads in a brutal pre-season schedule starting in the first week of July. Fitness levels are high and skills have been improved which has lead to healthy competition for places. This was evident in the inter club trial held last Wednesday at the club where 33 lads turned up in atrocious weather to stake their claim for a place in the 1st xv. The coaches using different options to see which is the best formula for when Sunday comes along. They will have another chance to make a few last minute decisions in a trial game at Ruskin Park on Tuesday (26th August). Kick off 6.30pm. The Lancashire plate holds fond memories for the kirk faithful after their cup run last season took them to the semi-finals only to be out-classed by eventual winners Heaton Moor. Can they go one step further this season…. Come and find out and support your local rugby club.
