Another weekend, another win for both the First and Second Teams but Green Lane surely must have witnessed one of the most gutsy performances by a misfiring First Team for many a year to beat a strong Anselmians team 22 - 15.
A much changed First Team due to the strong performance last week of the Seconds came up against a newly promoted Anselmians who have clearly recruited well and built a robust training and playing structure who are sure to win more games than they will lose this year. From the start they demonstrated great organisation, commitment and fitness although will be extremely disappointed to of won nearly 80% of the possession and still lose. However, this loss did not come about by chance but by the dogged determination of the Home Team and their never say die attitude to tackle anything that moved to defend their line for 80 minutes and take their chances on the few occasions they entered enemy territory.
Still not playing the fluid rugby of last season this talented First Team keeps winning and with the strength in depth of the Second Team who also continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 20 - 0 win over a strong Littleborough side the 2009/2010 season is sure to be a good one. 3 League Matches, 3 Wins for both First and Seconds - bring on Glossop for the First’s away and the Second’s against Preston Grasshoppers at Fortress Green Lane next week.
The Fourth Team got their season back on track when they convincingly beat Blackburn 38 -7 at the Fortress. Unfortunately the Third Team went down 52 - 0 against Moore 2.
