‘Fuzzy Navels’ Triumph in Captains’ Cocktails game

Posted by: Monty on Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Bank Holiday Monday at Green Lane saw a well-contested game of rugby involving 2nd, 3rd & 4th XV players. Billed as a curtain-raiser for the coming season, the game coincided with Captains’ Cocktails, a day for all the family to come down to the Club and socialise.

A display of the Club’s memorabilia since 1926 caught the eye of a few of the older members, whilst the Ladies team sorted out a great BBQ for the afternoon. Andrew Dean was all set to entertain the masses with egg-throwing, welly-wanging and tug-of-war, but the rain set in and unfortunately the fun and games never really got going.

On the pitch, Dawson’s strong pack had the edge in the scrums, but Montrose’s backs - when they did get the ball - capitalised with some well-worked trys. Both Andy Jackson and Jim McKeown bagged hat-tricks, but all players on both teams - young and old - contributed to a very soild performance.

Thank you to members and families who attended, and to people who helped out behind the scenes.
