February 2008

Dear ORUFC member,

The Chairman has asked me to write to the membership to update you on several issues. I have bullet-pointed the relevant details under the headings of: Club Development; Clubhouse Refurbishment; Minis/Juniors Section; and Financial Issues

Club Development

o The Chairman is attending a Lancashire Club Development seminar at LSH on 20th March
o Chairman is also meeting John Nelson (WLDC Recreation Dept) in the near future to finalise the extension to the lease on the use of Green Lane by ORUFC

Clubhouse Refurbishment

o The shower/bath refurbishment should be completed by the end of this month. The job has cost in the region of £11,000. Many thanks to B Stevenson, I Critchley, M Jackson, S Denholm and P Blackwood for their time and effort in doing many jobs at a reduced charge to the Club
o Another massive vote of thanks to D Valentine - Chairman of the Minis & Juniors Section - who organised parents to paint the outside of the Clubhouse and the interior of the changing-rooms. Likewise A Rees (Under 9s coach) has supplied and fitted a hand-basin in the ladies toilets – thank you!
o We need volunteers from the Senior section to ‘deep clean’ the Clubhouse at some stage in the near future, and to spruce the interior of the Clubhouse up a little – please contact one of the Committee with your offer of support! We will organise a day/evening in the near future to get everyone together – many hands make light work!

Minis & Juniors Section

o Four of our age groups will be playing in the Lancashire Cup quarter-finals on the weekend of March 9th – good luck to all the lads and their coaches. More details to be posted on the web-site in the near future
o The Minis & Juniors Section has been very pro-active this season, on and off the pitch. For members’ information, each member of the Minis & Juniors Section now pays £10 into the Senior Club’s funds. This is one of our efforts to integrate the various sections of our Club, and to make us all more accountable

Financial Issues

o Due to increased expenditure in and around the Clubhouse – and fairly static funds coming into the Club – we need to generate extra revenue to ensure we don’t go ‘into the red’
o The Minis & Juniors are doing their bit (see above), but we need to look at ways of bringing extra cash into the Club on a weekly basis if we are to at least maintain the current standards in and around the Clubhouse
o Weekly match fees will now be £4 (£2 for students), with immediate effect. Please make sure you pay your weekly subs before disappearing at the end of the match! These weekly fees are a very important part of our cash-flow
o From Saturday 23rd February, bar prices will increase slightly
o Without one or two key sponsors, we would be in a much worse financial state this season. Please contact one of the Committee if you can help out in any way regarding sponsorship – we need to generate a lot more income in this way next season
o Likewise, if members can help to generate income by organising raffles on a weekly basis, this would be great. In short, we need more volunteers giving up a little time to help the Club out

Finally, please visit the web-site – www.ormskirkrufc.co.uk – for any contact details or further information you need.

Thank you in anticipation for your support and co-operation on these matters

Yours In Rugby,

B Stevenson
Chairman – Ormskirk RUFC
