The First Team achieved a great result on the road winning 38 -13 to a Wigan that sent our unbeaten Senior Team to the Top of South Lancs/Cheshire Division One as Bowdon dropped a point only managing a draw at Widnes. The joy at continuing the unbeaten run has been tempered with the news of a couple of injuries that are still being accessed, but everyone is already looking forward to a home match next week with Oswestry at home starting at 1500 Hrs. The full Wigan match report to follow from James Illingworth.
The Seconds struggled for a second week in a row loosing 30 - 10 at home to Tyldesley in a disappointing game that proved youth and speed on occasions is no substitute for bulk and technique at this level as Tyldesley dominated up front to starve a team full of talented individuals with ball in hand of any ball going forward. A tough week ahead for management and selectors to re-find that fundamental balance of bulk, experience and enthusiasm to get this talented group of players back to winning ways in their next fixture away at Whitchurch next week.
The Thirds secured their first win of the season in some style with a 45 -12 win at Home to Merseyside Police and it is no coincidence that some old heads in Chris Tracey, Mark Hutchings, Paul Keech and Neil Buxton were warmly welcomed back to the field for their first starts of the season. A superb hatrick from Jim McKeown showed that you can teach ‘old dogs new tricks’ as he has been one of the most regular and enthusiastic students at the new training regime being run on a Tuesday and Thursday evening at Green Lane.
Unfortunately the Fourths could not raise a team to travel to Kirkby Lonsdale and forfeited the match that is extremely disappointing after such a great display last week at Home but have two consecutive Home fixtures coming up starting with Fylde at Home next week to make amends.
Training next week continues under Flood Lights at Green Lane on Tuesday and Thursday commencing at 1900 Hrs Sharp
