A frustrated First Team were always going to be a tough ask of the Visiting Vagabonds from the Isle of Man but the 50 -10 win on a very blustery day at Green Lane was on balance a great result for the Home Team. This result continues the unbeaten start to the season for the First Team but more importantly witnessed the fourth start by an 18 year old in as many games with Matt Evans starting at Scrum Half and more than doing himself justice at this level - which is both credit to him and the selectors for giving him the opportunity to display his obvious abilities. As the season continues the policy of selecting future potential will remain as the need to win will be balanced with the future club development and the aspiration is to involve as many of the other colts who are good enough and can commit to senior training twice a week with aspirations to represent the senior sides.

On today’s performance it appears this policy will soon be repaid by those talented 18 year olds who are given the chance as both First Team wingers bagged a hatrick apiece, Ben McCarthy following up his man of the match performance last week with 3 good finishes and Luke Parker continuing his awesome form with 10 tries in 3 games.

Unfortunately the second team faltered away to Marple loosing 29 -22 and the Thirds also struggled on the road going down 50 - 7 at Birchfield. They both have an opportunity to put things right next week at Fortress Green Lane against Tyldesley and Merseyside Police respectively both starting at 1500 Hrs with all support as ever warmly welcome.

The Fourths benefitted from the rapid promotion of some of the club youth up the teams as some old heads dropped down to help them to a 34 - 10 win over high flying Penrith who showed why they were unbeaten until their visit to Ormskirk HQ.
