As the season draws to the ‘business end’ for most teams it also draws to a sad close on what appears to be one of the most successful years on the field Ormskirk RUFC has seen for some time. This success comes from good organisation off the field but a genuine strength and depth on it. Reading the myriad of match reports from the mens, ladies and junior teams, all sections of the club are clearly performing exceptionally well. The 2nd team – a.k.a. ‘The Raiders’ - rarely get reported on (only because none of them can write) – this set of lads have genuine structure to their game, discipline and a true passion to win that has ensured not only promotion this season but an attractive and technically very good brand of rugby being played; they are determined to take that on into next season.
Let’s not lose the momentum over the summer and continue to build the club ethos where all are welcome and invited to participate from all teams in the club. Commencing on Wednesday 7 May 08 at 1900 Hrs will be one hour of touch rugby played at Green Lane that will hopefully run all the way through to pre-season training. If we get enough people turning up we may run a small competition towards the end of the summer played on the same night but to start with let’s turn up through a ball about for an hour, get to know each other and have some fun.
To start with the club facilities may not be open so bring your own on field refreshments, but in time if there is the interest we may develop the event and open up the club house. Get the date in your diaries and if you are a true rugby player thinking about the game all year through see you on the 7 May 08 at 1900 Hrs to practice all those things you dare not do on the field during the season. Remember there is no ‘I’ in team, and no one team in this club so be part of the ‘In’ crowd and Play Touch on a Wednesday Night.
