U11s 10-02-08 - Ormskirk 49 Tarleton 5

In weather conditions perfect for Rugby, Ormskirk U11’s took the opportunity
to put in a display of Rugby that was almost text book. The fact that it was
a derby game against local rivals Tarleton added an even more positive slant
to the result.

From the start, the Ormskirk pack were into everything which ensured that
everything that Tarleton attempted was well and truly on the back foot. So
as well as the turnover ball secured, a solid platform was also created for
Ormskirk’s own ball and with this pressure it was only a matter of time
before it was converted into points. After all of the hard work put in up
front it was perhaps fitting that newcomer Prop forward John ‘the javelin’
Ireland should burst through for the first try. As John is new to the game,
he has yet to mastered the Prop forward’s art of gross exageration of
scoring endeavour, but we are sure that this will come with time.

With excellent rucking and mauling displays particularly by Patrick ‘butane’
Hagerty, and a number of “rumbles” by Matt ‘the rocket’ Reddy, the backs
also began to start making some serious yards. This effort again resulting
in another newcomers try for winger Luke ‘boston strangler’ Grant.

Tarleton who are no pushover team also contributed to the game with some
great runs - especially from their big Full back, but for once the ormskirk
tackling and defensive positioning was strong (well, for most of the time!)
and limited their scoring for the game to one un-converted try.

A great performance at centre by Will ’snake hips’ Church saw him bag a
brace of tries. Some solid tackling (as well as inheriting his Father’s
fuller figure) means that ’snake hips’ may soon need to be ‘breeze block’

Solid performances from Adam ‘crusher’ kingston, William ‘dynamite’ Duncan,
Ben ‘ronnie kray’ Sefton, Miles ’sniffer’ Neve, Jack ‘billy whiz’ Whisker
and Thomas ‘the hitman’ Hanlon all contributed to a seven try haul for the
day.

Another mercurial performance with the boot from Second row John ‘Eales’
Thornhill ensured that all tries were converted adding 14 points of extras.

The final score finishing at a well deserved 49 - 5.

A second game was played which saw a number of substitutions. Luke ‘reggie
Kray’ Sefton, Elliott ‘Cobster’ Cobham and newcomer Jacob ‘G-force’ Glover
all making a significant contribution to the cause. Whilst not quite as
frantic as the first this second game still produced a nailbiting 21 all
draw.

Despite some considerable carping by the Tarleton coaches about the format
of the matches, refereeing decisions and even that the pitch was too wide,
the game was still played in reasonable spirit and should in no way detract
from a performance that every one of the lads should be proud of.

Incidentally, for any of the U-11 anoraks, we’ve had the rulebook and tape
measure out and the pitch was definitely within the guidelines!
