The U13s travelled to Winnington Park with many changes, a couple of injuries and three unavailable. It was always going to be a tough encounter against a large opposition, both in the number of players in their squad and their size.
To lose by 5 tries to nil was disappointing due to the fact that three of the tries were given way due to slack tackling. Great performances in their first games by Jack O’Brien and Liam Peate, and special mention for Alex Fitzpatrick who had to play out of position at second row. The game was marred by a nasty injury to Adam Kirk, who as he dropped on the ball was hit from behind by a large Winnington Park forward who ploughed into his back with both his knees. It was alarming that the referee took no action and even played on! Thankfully the game was halted soon after, abandoned and after a full checkup in a local hospital, Adam was at home on Sunday evening with no serious damage.
On a brighter note, 8 of the squad have been selected for Lancashire u13 squad training. Gavin Griffiths with Merseyside; Adam Kirk, Dan Bailie, Jordan Dawson, Eddie Webster, Aidan Charlton, Marc Tasker and Jonny Dunn with North Lancashire. We wish them all well.
