Ormskirk u15 60pts - Bolton u15 12ptsÂ
In their second game of the season the u15s continued their open rugby and treated the travelling supporters to a feast of trys. Straight from the kick off the scene was set as Eddie Webster tackled three defenders on the trot, forcing the last over his try line to concede a 5m scrum. From the resulting ruck, Cecil Fairhurst charged forward but lost the ball in the tackle.
More pressure saw Ormskirk win another 5m scrum and following quick hands fromt he backs to Alex Morrell, no.8 Aidan Charlton picked up from the back of the ruck and drove over. A scrum in the Ormskirk half and great service from Adam Kirk, who marshalled his forwards excellently gave Dan Bailie the chance to release his backs. A smart miss move saw Gavin Griffiths in acres of space, he stepped the last few defenders and scored under the posts with Chris Nicholson adding the extras.
From the kick off, Webster drove forward, linked well with Charlton who sneaked through a gap before releasing Morrell for a 30m dash to the line. Another forward drive by Cecil gave Griffiths some space and he timed his pass perfectly for Aaron Cheung to force his way over in the corner. Bolton were looking a little shell-shocked, but the bombardment wasn’t over and more slick play took the ball deep into the home 22, from the scrum Charlton picked up and drove for the line, before popping the ball inside for Griffiths to score a great try.
More sublime handling from the backs saw Cheung and Griffiths combine to set Simon Brazier away, but he was well tackled after a great run. Ormskirk pinched the Bolton line out and Webster burst off the ruck to score with Bailie converting. The final try of the half saw winger Michael Jones given the opportunity to once again show his pace and he didn’t fail as defenders were left in his wake.
41-0 up at half time gave Ormskirk the opportunity to make plenty of changes and although the points tally was not as great, the fact that many players played out of position showed how talented this squad is. A chip ahead from Bailie was seized on by Webster who hacked the ball upfield, collected it a full pace and swept over the line, Dunn adding the extras. Michael Jones got in on the act following good work from the tireless Webster.
Bolton then had a purple patch as they scored two deserved tries from their forwards to give the home supporters something to cheer - their attitude was brilliant against the avalanche of points that they suffered. Ormskirk hadn’t finished and debutant Danny Nutbrown made a great break down the middle of the pitch. Bolton were penalised at the ruck and Dan Price powered his way over from the tap penalty, Dunn converting well. George Lightfoot made another great contribution as good ball from a driving maul gave him the chance to show his pace, unfortunately he was stopped just short of the line.
This was another great display and sets the side up for their touch trip to Aldwinians in Sunday’s Lancashire Challenge opening group game.
