We were very keen to do well in this away fixture as Widnes had narrowly beaten us twice in tournaments earlier this season. Pre-match discussions determined a format of 3 15-minute periods to give both sets of players plently of rugby. Widnes scored first then great defence from both sides meant that there was no further score with Ormskirk going closest getting over the line at least twice without being able to ground the ball in view of the referee. Both teams played with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. All the Ormskirk team tackled unflinchingly for the full 45 minutes with Jake Mounfield just shading the “top tackler” award from numerous other candidates. Our best defensive performance this season. Well done boys!!!
