On the final day of the season the ’surprise’ package from Ormskirk Rugby Club raised their game to play a match fitting the occasion. An outstanding team effort from all nineteen players ensured that Dursley RFC from Gloucester were nearly always on the backfoot. The majority of the game was played in the middle or upper reaches of the pitch well away from the Ormskirk try line.If that was the coaches plan it was magnificently executed! The only thing missing was a try. Dursley gave a good account of themselves and played the game in a similar spirit to our boys. When the final whistle was blown and the countback procedure invoked it was found to the shock of the organisers that the two teams had identical scores from the qualifying stages. Due to these unusual circumstances the sponsors decided to award two bowls instead of one.
A very big thank you from the team for all the support received at Twickenham. The standard has now been set for future years! They also’ sincerely’ apologise for the complete havoc caused to the Whitsun Week Holiday arrangements of several families. How often do we at Ormskirk fly in a player from Greece to play for us and for him to return to Greece after the match?
Finally our thanks to Dave & Charlie for the game plan and the years of toil and the help of Neil (Our next level one?) & Graham.
Ye of little faith.
