Under 12s win local derby.

The under 12s were looking forward to this late arranged fixture against local rivals Tarleton especially as they had ended 2006 on a real high and were keen to burn off some of the turkey and other goodies consumed over the Christmas break.  It was obvious from the start that Ormskirk were going to have too much fire power for the Tarleton team but credit where credit is due as Tarleton made the lads fight for every single try and even as late as the last few minutes were bravely defending their line preventing a couple of late try scoring opportunities.

The game was played over 4 quarters and Ormskirk took a 14 points to nil lead in the first session. Robert Hall scored an excellent first try driving over from short range. A second try soon followed  after some excellent tackling by Matthew Jones allowed the ball to squirt free near the line to allow Matt White an easy pick up and to dive through a sea of legs to score. In the second quarter Tarleton rolled up their sleeves and ensured that some good tackling and commitment prevented any further score.

In the 3rd quarter Ormskirk again put the squeeze on their opponents and the forwards produced some excellent rucking and mauling to set up tries for Tom Povey and Olly Hogan. As Tarleton tired 2 further scores came in the last quarter from flier Tom Povey and a well deserved try for Matthew Jones who did well deputising for the sick Harry James at scrum half. Matt White converted all six tries leaving a satisfying 42 points to nil victory for Ormskirk. Obviously winning is important but the coaches are more pleased with the way the team is playing at the moment. After months spent training on a Wednesday night we are now reaping the benefits as the lads are now actually beginning to resemble a rugby team and are starting to get the basics right. The team now have a couple of blank weekends but no doubt will be put through their paces on the training ground in preparation for the next fixture against Fylde on the 28th of January
