Under 13s cruise to win in Lancashire Junior Challenge.

Ormskirk under 13s were very much looking forward to this Lancashire Cup encounter against Sefton, bolstered by the fact that for one of the first times this season they were nearly at full strength. Although just down the road in Liverpool, this was the first encounter between the two teams and so it was difficult to make any pre-match predictions.

Ormskirk came flying out of the blocks and were soon pressing the Sefton line. A great move with the ball flying down the line saw the ball land in winger Tom Anderson’s hands and he burst through a stetched defensive line to score the first try. Following this it was not long before ‘kirk scored their second try. Centre Tom Povey took advantage of a Sefton knock on to pick up the ball, chipped on and superbly picked the ball up to score. Sefton however kept going and set up a well worked attacking position only for the ball to come loose from a ruck which allowed number 8 Olly Hogan to pick the ball up and go the length of the pitch to score Ormskirk’s third try.

Throughout the game the rampaging Ormskirk forwards were creating excellent ball for the backs to run with. The next try came after a superbly won line-out allowed scrum-half Matt Jones to nip down the short side and flip the ball out to winger Graham Bishop to score in the corner. Ormskirk were now on fire and after some great rucking near the Sefton line the ball came free for flanker Craig Ennis to score. The game was finally put to bed as second rower Marcus Rylance took advantage of a knock on near the opposition line to pick the ball up and drive over to make the final score Ormskirk 30  Sefton 0. An excellent performance by Ormskirk but great credit must go to Sefton who never once allowed their heads to drop and ensured that the home side had to work  for every point.
