In the under 14s last group game of this season’s Lancashire Cup they made the 100 mile round trip to East Manchester to face Aldwinians. This was always going to be a hard game as Aldwinians sat proudly in second place in the group not having lost a game.
As usual Ormskirk had to put up with illness and injury with the regular centres,Tom Povey, Olly Hogan and Pat Lloyd all missing. Things did not improve as within the first ten minutes of the game ‘Kirk also lost prop Arron Waggoner with a head injury and full-back Matt White, limping off with a knock to the foot. Suffice to say after this Aldwinians always had the upper hand and held a comfortable 26 points to 3 lead at half-time, ‘Kirks only points came from a well struck Michael Quirk penalty kick. Aldwinians scored a further three second half tries to end up convincing winners leaving Ormskirk to rue a rather lacklustre performance and showing the lads that at this level everyone has to share out the tackling load.
Having said this it would be remiss not to mention Craig Ennis in particular who never shirked from his responsibilities all game and was still flying into the tackle long after the game was lost. The lads now have to get their act back together as they now try to win The Plate Competition which they did so convincingly against Rochdale last year.
