Ormskirk U15s v Fleetwood U15s

This years tournament has entered into the last 8 stage with the current holders, due to county and district matches, having only played 9 matches so far this season. Many people had thought they had passed their best and were a spent force. Fleetwood can testify that this is not the case.

Fleetwood travelled to Green Lane in a confident mood, after an impressive win over last year’s finalists Preston.

Unfortunately for Fleetwood the Green Lane men were about to release their most impressive and merciless performance this season.

The Ormskirk pack quite simply over powered the much larger Fleetwood pack and the game was finished as a contest within 5 minutes, early tries from Ally Sutherland & Conor Wright knocked the stuffing out of Fleetwood and Ormskirk then started to play the open expansive game which is now their hallmark, the skills of the players defied the atrocious weather condtions.

Ormskirk went on to add a further 10 tries through John Pape, Josh Stratton, Tom Beecroft, Tom Wright, Alex Heyes with a brace and Alex Martland with 4. John Pape & Josh Stratton added 9 conversions between them, all this with the game stopped with 15 minutes to play.

Fleetwood had 3 props injured during the game, Green Lane men Peter Reston & George Rees stepped up to take on the scrummaging responsibilities for the visitors.

Special mention to Fleetwood who kept playing and despite the scoreline did make the game a contest, their coach summed up the day by saying “you can’t do much with out the ball” & “the way your boys play is an example of how the game should be played”

After placing down this huge marker Ormskirk now take on Sedgley Park in the semi final on Sunday 18th March 2007 at Green Lane.

Final Score

Ormskirk U15s 30* Fleetwood U15s 0
