Ormskirk U 15s 5 Leigh U15s 31
Â
Ormskirk paid for a lack of organisation in the first half and - despite an improved second half performance - could not overturn the home team. Leigh played intelligently throughout the entire match, and used a strong cross field wind to pin Ormskirk in their own ‘22′ for much of the opening period.
Coming into the second half 24 – 0 down Ormskirk needed to step their game up and subsequently did. A special mention must go to Daniel Unsworth (man of the match) who led from the front throughout the entire game and set the standard for the rest of the team to follow.
Strong performances from Jacob Delaney and Oliver Griffiths coming on from the bench led to a period of early dominance in the second half. However, Ormskirk could not turn this pressure into points, and it was this lack of a killer instinct that ultimately cost Ormskirk the match. This was epitomised by Leigh’s opening try of the second half, who broke away for a shock try after a prolonged period of Ormskirk pressure.
Straight from the kick off Ormskirk again pressured their opponents into a series of mistakes, and promptly set up camp in the Leigh 22m. From this pressure Jake Delaney crashed over from 15 m out to score the first try for Ormskirk, a try that summed up the efforts of the entire team throughout the game. One final mention must go to James Wilkinson who made his debut for Ormskirk U 15’s and put in a suitably solid performance.
Overall, the coaches were pleased with the hearts and efforts of the players put in throughout whole game, and will look to use this performance as a stepping stone to what can potentially be a great season for Ormskirk U 15’s.
